IRD SHARES THE 29'er TOP TEN TIRES

IRD SHAKING UP THE 74 Cmer TOP TEN TIRES

Interloc Racing Design and Panaracer have partnered to bring you 74 cm FireXCPro versions. The multi-stepped crown tread provides additional knob support and pseudo speed ramp effects. You can choose from either red or black sidewalls for the single compound tread. MBAs Tire Special September 2008 issue did not include the IRD, which is a very good tire. Here’s how it would have scored.

harder braking over loose surfaces. Overall, the IRD has been a tough and trail-worthy tire.

This score places the IRD FireXCPro74 cmer in the 6th spot on MBA’s top ten 74-cm tires. The former 6th-10th place finish tires are now down one position, and the Bontrager Jones ACX2.2 is knocked off the list.

The IRD FireXCPro 74cmer was so popular that we converted it to tubeless using a Mavic C29ssmax UST wheelet. This will be reviewed in the October 2008 issue. IRD converted the tubeless version immediately. This was how it went and we had great results with 25 psi. The tire just blew off the wheel today while jumping. It was located in the back, touching down from a cross-up flight. This allowed us to ride it out easily.

To get a tire off a rim, the Kevlar bead must stretch or break. MBA recommends that you throw away any tire that blows off a rim.

If the rim has a small diameter, it can cause a tire to pop off the rim. The tire may be larger than the recommended size. The tire bead may feel weak after it has blown off the rim. When converting to tubeless, we always make sure that our tires are at least 40psi. It is a sign that the bead has enough strength that the tire can hold at this pressure setting. After a while, we lower the pressure to 25psi which is what we use for base settings for tubeless tires. This shows that the particular FireXCPro-74 cmer’s bead was weak. Panaracer has a reputation for making reliable tubeless tires.

Its performance score does not change despite the fact that one of its tires failed. The IRD FireXCPro-74 cmer was designed to run a tube. It was initially evaluated with a tube.
